Can I finance equipment bought from a director or related company?

Related-party purchases need early disclosure and may be treated differently from an independent supplier sale.

The practical answer

Related-party purchases need early disclosure and may be treated differently from an independent supplier sale.

Explain the relationship, current legal owner, proposed price and commercial reason for the transfer. Provide ownership records and any independent valuation requested.

Do not present the transaction as an ordinary dealer purchase or assume the lender will fund the agreed price. Company, tax and legal implications may also need advice before assets move between connected parties.

Important

Commercial finance is subject to status, lender approval and the specific asset and transaction. The right structure depends on the complete circumstances of the business.

What should I do next?

Have the asset details, supplier information and an outline of what the business needs ready. DCF can then discuss the requirement and identify which lenders may be suitable.
