Deposits, VAT & purchase costs

Does financing a business asset automatically make its VAT reclaimable?

No. VAT recovery depends on the purchase and business circumstances, not simply the use of finance.

The practical answer

No. VAT recovery depends on the purchase and business circumstances, not simply the use of finance.

Check the invoice, agreement type, business use and VAT position with your accountant. A lender’s willingness to fund an asset does not confirm the tax treatment.

Use the actual cash payable and a realistic recovery timetable in your forecast. Do not assume every used purchase includes separately recoverable VAT or that a refund will arrive before the next bill is due.

Important

Commercial finance is subject to status, lender approval and the specific asset and transaction. The right structure depends on the complete circumstances of the business.

What should I do next?

Have the asset details, supplier information and an outline of what the business needs ready. DCF can then discuss the requirement and identify which lenders may be suitable.
